What is
Udayasthamana Pooja and How can I book for this?
Udayasthamana pooja
implies worship from sunrise to sunset. It consists of 15
special Poojas in addition to all the routine poojas and begins after
the morning Siveli.
This has been booked for another 5 years. You can make booking at
Devaswom counter inside the temple.

Why do we
celebrate Ekadasi?
Ekadasi,the
most important festival during the Mandalam period, lasting for a month.
It is believed that on the Guruvayur Ekadasi day, Lord Krishna revealed the Gita
to Arjuna.
On Guruvayur Ekadasi Day , devotees take "Vradha" (fasting) to attain
salvation.

karnatic music festival is held for 11 days in the memory of Sri Chembai
Vaidyanadha Bhagavathar, as part of the Ekadasi celebrations.

What are the
temple rules?
Wearing
shirts, trousers, vests, pyjamas, lungis( printed dhotis), churidars,
footwear etc. is forbidden. Hence ladies can wear saris and skirts and
blouses while the men can wear plain white or cream dhoti. Small
kids and
possessions
like cameras, video cameras, radios, tape-recorders, cell phone etc. cannot be taken
into the 'Chuttambalam'.
Newly
married couples are not allowed inside the Chuttambalam also known as
Nalambalam, soon after the marriage ceremony.

How could I
get the token for Prasada Oottu?
Prasada Oottu, Annadhana
conducted by the Guruvayur Devaswom
at the dining hall for pilgrims
at 10.00 AM everyday. One can make an offering of any amount (min Rs 1)
for this free feeding. One who wish to consume this prasada feeding should
be in queue as early as possible.

What is
Annaprasanam / Choroonnu ?
Annaprasanam:
This is the first rice-giving ceremony of a child conducted before
the Lord Guruvayurappa . All the
itemsincluding cooked rice, payasam (sweet preparation of rice and jaggery;
rice, sugar & milk) plantain etc. are placed on a banana leaf and the
children are fed each of these.
You have to collect the token (Rs 10) for Annaprasanam(Choroonu) from the
Devaswom counter inside the temple.
